Description: PSECU is a high-tech progressive $4+ billion financial institution that is seeking a Controller to supervise and direct staff in the preparation and presentation of the credit union and subsidiary company financial statements, regulatory reports and other financial information.  Establishes and implements accounting policy; assures the existence of and adherence to operating procedures for accounting related activities; coordinates the compliance with regulatory policy relating to accounting systems and practices; responsible for the preparation of budgets and related financial reports; assesses financial risk areas and develops controls to manage identified risk. Works with Systems analyst and others to develop required systems to carry out these functions.

 Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 am - 4 pm


Duties and Accountabilities - Essential for this position:

  1. Responsible for the establishment and ongoing maintenance of an effective system of internal control within the scope of assigned job responsibilities.
  2. Identifies Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) applicable to the credit union and ensures financial statement compliance with such.
  3. Prepares annual audited financial statements and related footnotes for review by the Vice President and external auditors. Interfaces with external auditors regarding financial statement presentation.
  4. Coordinates preparation of the Annual Budget for review by the Vice President and President and adoption by the Board of Directors. Oversees subsequent budget variance analysis.
  5. Responsible for the development and maintenance of credit union financial accounting policies and suggests accounting procedure improvements.
  6. Oversees the general accounting function which is responsible for general ledger entries and maintenance, reconciliations, statistical reports, and accounts payable.
  7. Assesses Finance Department areas of risk and suggests enhancements to internal controls to mitigate identified risks.
  8. Oversees preparation of various regulatory and other reports for external entities.
  9. Performs various financial statement analytics and projections as requested by the Vice President
  10. Periodically provides informational and educational sessions to the Board of Directors on topics related to area of responsibility.
  11. Responsible for continuing education and self-development in the area of financial accounting, credit union regulations and budgeting.
  12. Responsible for effectively managing risks within the scope of assigned job responsibilities.

DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES - Essential for all PSECU Management: 
  1. Knowledge - Maintain required knowledge, skills and abilities in assigned area of expertise, including the laws, standards, fundamentals, methods, procedures, and techniques required for job.  Maintain up-to-date knowledge of PSECU’s Collective Bargaining Unit Agreement, processes, related business processes, and the business world outside PSECU.  Maintain knowledge PSECU’s goals, culture, philosophy, products and services, bylaws, policies, and internal practices.
  2. Workflow Management - Manage time effectively; meet deadlines; and produce quality work requiring little or no review.  Manage high volume of work assignments.
  3. Judgment - Exercise good judgment and appropriate decision making within scope of job. 
  4. Communication - Effectively communicate with audience appropriate content and detail both verbally and in writing.
  5. Relationship Management - Maintain strong and effective interpersonal skills and effective working relationships with all stakeholders, both internal and external. Demonstrate PSECUs Operating Principles of PRIDE (Partnership, Reliability, Improvement, Dedication, and Ethics).
  6. People Management and Development - Supervise workflow and staff, in accordance with scope of the Collective Bargaining Agreement if applicable and using PSECU’s coaching style of management (1-on-1 dialoging regularly, delegating effectively, setting expectations and goals, providing ongoing training, providing development opportunities, holding staff accountable in accordance with the credit union’s performance management process).
  7. Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  8. Maintain regular and consistent attendance as required for acceptable performance and accountabilities of this position.
  9. Maintain confidentiality, in particular with credit union account information, as well as other information designated as confidential.
  10. Responsible for the establishment and ongoing maintenance of an effective system of internal control within the scope of assigned job responsibilities.
  11. Must be bondable and meet creditworthiness standards.
  12. Notify Human Resources in writing if convicted of a misdemeanor or felony involving dishonesty, breach of trust or violation of the Pennsylvania Credit Union Code (17 Pa. S. C. A. 101 et seq.) during the course of employment with PSECU.

Minimum Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, and five years’ experience in Financial Accounting, or any equivalent combination of experience and education. CPA certification is required.
