Debbie Matz

Debbie Matz, Chair, NCUA
Debbie Matz was nominated by President Barack Obama to serve as the eighth board chair of the National Credit Union Administration. After confirmation by the U.S. Senate on August 7, 2009, she was sworn in on August 24, 2009. Matz is no stranger to NCUA and credit unions, having served as a board member at NCUA from January 2002 to October 2005.

As Chair of the NCUA Board, Matz is the spokesperson for the agency and oversees the regulation of federal credit unions and the administration of the federal insurance fund covering approximately 8,000 credit unions with over $800 billion in assets. Prior to becoming NCUA board chair, Matz served on President Obama’s Economic Transition Team. From 2006 until June 2008, Matz was the Executive Vice-President/Chief Operating Officer of a federal credit union serving 90,000 members with branches in the United States and Europe.

Lois Kitsch

Lois Kitsch, National Program Manager, REAL Solutions
REAL Solutions, the signature program of the National Credit Union Foundation, is a coordinated national effort to document and distribute tested business models and strategies to help credit unions better serve underserved people with real needs. Through REAL Solutions, Americans who struggle from paycheck to paycheck can begin to build savings and secure assets that will help working families for generations to come. Pennsylvania is one of the 36 state credit union trade associations working on this initiative.

Prior to joining NCUF, Lois Kitsch managed credit union development projects throughout Europe and Asia for the World Council of Credit Unions and ran a successful credit union strengthening program in the Philippines. Prior to her employment with WOCCU, Kitsch held management positions in credit unions in Florida and North Dakota.

Denise Gabel, Chief Innovation Officer, Filene Research Institute
How will shifting demographics, economic forces and social trends impacting consumers affect credit unions? Denise Gabel will provide specific insights on what credit unions must do to remain relevant to members and consumers by utilizing Filene and ethnographic research to describe how the financial services landscape is evolving to meet consumers’ needs. Discover growing markets and new financial services products.

Gabel is the Chief Innovation Officer at the Filene Research Institute. She oversees Filene’s i3 program and other innovation efforts and works to ensure a pipeline of solutions is in place to connect the past and the future for credit unions and consumers. She authored the Filene Research Institute’s Key Findings: Innovation through Collaboration and Key Findings: Blueprints for Innovation and contributed to several CUNA training materials.

Prior to joining Filene, Gabel served as Vice President, Strategic Direction, for the Spokane Teachers Credit Union leading strategic planning, innovation, and corporate governance.
