2011 PCUA Awards & Scholarships



The Association is pleased to sponsor prestigious leadership awards and scholarships each year to recognize deserving individuals and credit unions for their accomplishments.

 

The Lifetime Achievement Awards recognize one Professional and one Volunteer of the Year for their personal and career accomplishments, as well as their passion for the credit union movement. The Credit Union Community Awards recognize credit unions that demonstrate their commitment to the community while illustrating the credit union difference.  There is a new category for chapter entries in the Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award. Scholarships help rising stars develop into tomorrow's leaders.  Every credit union, regardless of size, should have someone deserving of a scholarship which gives him/her recognition, as well as the opoprtunity for professional development and advanceent.

The William W. Pratt Lifetime Achievement Award

The  William W. Pratt Lifetime Achievement Award  is presented annually to an outstanding credit union professional involved in daily credit union operations.

The nominee must be a full-time professional senior management employee of any Association-affiliated credit union, should be in good standing in the community, should understand the credit union philosophy, promote the credit union idea, and actively demonstrate loyalty to the organized credit union movement.

The Joseph A. Moore Lifetime Achievement Award

The Joseph A. Moore Lifetime Achievement Award is presented annually to a credit union volunteer who has selflessly given time, effort, and talent to the betterment of the movement with little or no monetary compensation.

The nominee should be a person of good reputation in the community, a person who understands and works to promote the credit union philosophy, who has worked to better the movement, and who has demonstrated loyalty to the organized credit union movement.

The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award

The Program was established to encourage credit union and chapter involvement in community projects and external activities (i.e., helping solve core community problems such as housing, transportation, hunger, or literacy; holding food, clothing, or school supply drives for the needy; raising money on behalf of charitable organizations; helping an organization or agency with events or projects, such as coaching a Special Olympics team; tutoring or reading to students at a local school; sponsoring a community volunteer of the year award).

The Louise A. Herring Award for Philosophy in Action

The Louise A. Herring Award for Philosophy in Action formally recognizes credit unions that demonstrate in an extraordinary way the practical application of the People Helping People philosophy. Examples of eligible activities include, but are not limited to: providing services for members with unique financial needs (childrens' savings clubs, discounts for senior citizens, other extraordinary efforts); counseling members who face financial difficulties; hosting educational seminars for members (retirement planning, car buying, budgeting, college financing); making efforts to educate members on the credit union difference.

Secrets to Winning Herring Awards

Desjardin Youth Financial Education Award

The Desjardins Youth Financial Education Awards recognize leadership within the credit union movement on behalf of youth financial literacy. It considers all activities supporting the personal finance education of young members and nonmembers, including, but not limited to, face-to-face teaching, publicity, lobbying for curriculum requirements, teacher and volunteer training, and promotion and use of the NEFE High School Financial Planning Program.  State winners will advance to national competition for judging.

The William M. Noble Memorial Scholarship

The William M. Noble Memorial Scholarship for Fall Leadership Conference is to honor William M. Noble, the man who pioneered credit union education in Pennsylvania. Management personnel of any Association-affiliated credit union are eligible to apply for the Noble Memorial Scholarship. The recipient will be provided with three nights’ lodging and conference registration fee to the Fall Leadership Conference.

 

The Josephine Sakovics Memorial Scholarship

The Josephine Sakovics Memorial Scholarship for the PCUA Annual Convention & Expo is to honor Josephine Sakovics for her dedication and commitment to the credit union movement.  Volunteers and management personnel of any Association-affiliated credit union are eligible to apply for the Sakovics Memorial Scholarship.  The recipient will be provided with three nights’ lodging, conference registration fee, and banquet ticket to the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association’s Annual Convention & Expo.

 

The Joseph F. Hinchey Memorial Scholarship

The Joseph F. Hinchey Memorial Scholarship for the Penn State Judge/Bradley Credit Union School is awarded annually to a deserving credit union professional of an Association-affiliated credit union that supports Pacul Services, Inc., through the purchase of its services.  The Scholarship must be used to attend the School in the year in which it is awarded. The scholarship covers tuition and some additional expenses to attend the Penn State Judge/Bradley Credit Union School.

 

Memorial Scholarships to the Penn State Judge / Bradley Credit Union School

Memorial Scholarships are awarded annually to deserving credit union professionals of any Association-affiliated credit union who wish to attend the Penn State Judge/ Bradley Credit Union School.  The Memorial Scholarship must be used to attend the School in the year in which it is awarded. The scholarship covers tuition and some additional expenses to attend the Penn State Judge/Bradley Credit Union School.

 

The Volunteer Memorial Scholarship

The Volunteer Memorial Scholarship to the Credit Union Directors Institute was established to perpetuate the memory of all past Association Boards of Directors.  A Volunteer Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving credit union volunteer of any Association-affiliated credit union who wishes to attend the Credit Union Directors’ Institute at Penn State. The Volunteer Memorial Scholarship must be used to attend the Credit Union Directors’ Institute in the year in which it is awarded. The scholarship covers tuition only.

 

Communications Awards for Newsletter, Annual Report, and Web Site

Be  recognized for the best  Newsletter, Annual Report, or Web Site from PCUA's member credit unions.  The winning credit unions will be honored at the PCUA Annual Convention & Expo.
