Credit Unions Holding Student Financial Education Reality Fair

On November 16, hundreds of students from high schools throughout Central Pennsylvania will be participating in the Financial Education Reality Fair sponsored by credit unions and the Pennsylvania Credit Union Foundation.  The Reality Fair allows students to experience making financial decisions as if they were entering the real world as independent adults.

Financial Reality Fairs are a practical exercise in personal financial management and help prepare students for navigating living on their own as adults. In preparation, students chose an occupation that genuinely interests them and researched their salary. From that they make real-life choices among areas like housing, transportation, food and clothing, insurance, entertainment and other categories within a realistic budget. Following their selections, students meet with financial counselors who review their budget results and advise them of possible changes if they overspend.

The Reality Fair will be in action in the Capitol Eastern Rotunda from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2011.
