State’s Top Credit Union Volunteer Award Given to Pittsburgh Resident

HARRISBURG – Robert “Bob” Greek of Pittsburgh was recently presented the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association’s (PCUA) top award for volunteers.  Greek accepted the Joseph A. Moore Award for the 2012 Outstanding Volunteer of the Year during the gala banquet at the PCUA 78th Annual Convention & Exposition held May 22 in Pittsburgh.

For more than 38 years, Greek has served as a volunteer in a variety of capacities for several Pittsburgh area credit unions and the PCUA Pittsburgh chapter of credit unions.  In 1991, he was elected to the Pittsburgh Central Federal Credit Union’s (PCFCU) Board of Directors and currently serves as Chairman.  For 25 years (1974-1999), he served as Chairman of Union Electric Steel Federal Credit Union, now Southwest Community Federal Credit Union.

In nominating Greek, his credit union stated that ‘Greek has been instrumental in cultivating a positive work environment and implementing many progressive changes for PCFCU, shaping a quality organization.’
Greek was a member of the steering committee to organize the Pennsylvania Credit Union Foundation and served six years (1996-2002) as a Board Director and member of the Fundraising Committee.

“Bob Greek has devoted thousands of hours serving others through his credit union volunteerism,” said PCUA President/CEO Jim McCormack.  “It was a pleasure being able to recognize his decades of service in front of his credit union friends and family in his hometown.”

The Volunteer of the Year Award is presented in memory of Joseph A. Moore, who served as an Association Board of Director from 1936-1972.  He sat as Board Chairman for three terms and was the state’s first national delegate to the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Board of Directors.

Credit unions are financial cooperatives that provide affordable financial services to help their owner/members.  The Harrisburg-based Pennsylvania Credit Union Association is a trade association that provides legislative, promotional, educational and operational support for more than 400 credit unions in Pennsylvania.  These credit unions have assets in excess of $36 billion and serve more than 3.7 million members.  For additional information about credit unions or to find a credit union near you, visit
