Dale Pickering of Allentown Receives

State’s Top Credit Union Volunteer Award

HARRISBURG – Dale Pickering of Allentown was awarded the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association’s (PCUA) top award for volunteers.  Pickering was presented the Joseph A. Moore Award for the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year during the Association’s 73rd Annual Convention & Exposition in Hershey.

For more than 40 years, Pickering has been active in the credit union movement.  Since 1994, he has served as treasurer of People First Federal Credit Union and serves on its Loan Review and ALM Committees.

A truly devoted volunteer, Dale has attended numerous credit union trainings since 1977 and is an active educator of others, as he actively works with legislators who support the credit union philosophy and issues.

Within his region, Dale served on the Board of Directors for the Lehigh Valley Chapter of Credit Unions and during his tenure as President, wrote radio ads for credit union promotions and helped to create bus-wrapper ads for the Lehigh Valley transit company.

Not only is Dale actively involved with credit unions, but he is also a volunteer for his church and civic events.  Along with altruistic activities on behalf of others, he has served as President of the Ontelaunee Antique Automobile Club where he enjoys his love of automobiles and driving his 1969 Ford Mustang to rallies and shows.

The Volunteer of the Year award is presented in memory of Joseph A. Moore, who served as an Association Board of Director from 1936-1972.  He sat as Board Chairman for three terms and was the state’s first national delegate to the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Board of Directors.

Credit unions are non-profit financial cooperatives that provide affordable financial services to help their owner/members.  The Pennsylvania Credit Union Association, based in Harrisburg, provides legislative, professional development, and operational support and services for nearly 600 credit unions in Pennsylvania.  These credit unions have assets in excess of $24 billion and serve nearly three and a half million members.
