Credit Unions Receive Awards

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Credit Union Association (PCUA) handed out its most prestigious awards during its 75th Annual Convention at the HERSHEY Lodge.  Conferees from throughout the state attended the meeting, which featured keynote addresses by TV personality and author Jane Bryant Quinn and Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett.

The following individuals were honored for their contributions to the movement:
  • Barbara Fortney, retired President/CEO of LANCO Federal Credit Union of Lancaster, received the William Pratt Award for Outstanding Professional of the Year.
  • Herbert Yost, retired Chairman of Diamond Credit Union of Pottstown, received the Joseph Moore Award for Outstanding Volunteer of the Year.
The 2009 Credit Union Youth Ambassador of Pennsylvania was won by Laura Huggins representing the Harrisburg Chapter of Credit Unions and employed at Belco Community Credit Union, Harrisburg.  As the Youth Ambassador, Huggins will promote credit union youth activities and serve as a representative of the PCUA during events and meetings.

In addition, Meghan Deaver of the Delaware County Chapter of Credit Unions and representing the Sun East Federal Credit Union of Aston was named First Alternate, and Marshall Winters representing the Susquehanna Valley Chapter of Credit Unions and Wyrope Williamsport Federal Credit Union, S. Williamsport, was named Second Alternate. 
A number of awards were presented to credit unions in recognition of their work within their communities.
