Radio Campaign Assures Consumers: Credit Unions Are Safe

10/14/2008 HARRISBURG — On behalf of the state’s nearly 600 credit unions, the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association launched a statewide radio campaign assuring listeners that credit unions are safe and sound.  The intensive three week campaign is airing on radio stations across the Commonwealth.
 
“Many consumers – and credit unions members – are confused about whether or not their credit union is insured like the FIDC,” said Jim McCormack, Pennsylvania Credit Union Association President/CEO. “The commercials should help to ease the fear and confusion.”

The radio spots feature PCUA CEO Jim McCormack explaining that credit unions are backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. Government by the National Credit Union Administration and that accounts are insured up to $250,000.  McCormack also encourages consumers to find a credit union to join by visiting ibelong.org.
 
“The good news is that credit unions are still serving their members financial needs, including making loans for education, homes, and vehicles,” said McCormack.

The Pennsylvania Credit Union Association (pcua.coop) is a trade association that provides legislative, promotional, educational and operational support for more than 500 credit unions in Pennsylvania.
